The brand originated from New Zealand: In the mid-1990s, Fred Willets began commercially producing his sister Betty Cole’s homemade steamed pudding recipe, launching Aunt Betty’s steamed puddings in 1996. Aunt Betty’s quickly became New Zealand’s favourite steamed pudding brand and expanded into other desserts.
Due to that success, the company created the Aunty’s brand in 1998 specifically for the UK market (a slight name variation to better suit British consumers) while keeping the same traditional steamed pudding recipes and convenient individual portions. Despite the “British” feel, Aunty’s puddings are still produced in New Zealand.
