Lagavulin Distillery was founded in the year 1742 and is said to be one of the oldest distilleries on Islay, consisting originally of 10 illicit distilleries. In 1816, local farmer and distiller John Johnston converts the buildings into a legal distillery and names it Lagavulin, the first legal operation in the area. Eventually, in 1989, it made its way into the Diageo portfolio, where it’s one of the six whiskies to make up the Classic Malts of Scotland series. The name Lagavulin is an anglicisation of Lag a’ Mhuilinn, the Scottish Gaelic for the hollow of the mill.

Lagavulin brand is the definitive Islay malt, intensely flavoured, smoky and rich. The windswept Isle of Islay instils a strength of character into everything it produces and it is here, nestled in a small bay that our beloved whisky has been made for over 200 years. All of Lagavulin’s distillate is made with heavily peat-smoked malt, giving its products that signature reek and pronounced maritime character. Revered by connoisseurs and experts, Lagavulin is known as “the king of Islay”. It is an ‘essential’ Scotch Whisky that any connoisseur or enthusiast must-have in their collection; one of the world’s favourite Malt Whiskies.

Aroma: Black pepper with aromatic wood smoke and hints of orange and lemon peel.

Taste: Taste of woodsmoke, oatmeal and honeyed fruit.
