Crafted by winemaker Larry Cherubino in Western Australia, the Folklore Cabernet Merlot blends Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot to deliver a wine of character, elegance and approachability. The grapes are hand-picked and matured in a mix of new and one-to-two-year-old French oak for around ten months, adding subtle complexity and oak-derived spice.
In the glass it shows an inky purple hue and aromas of classic blackcurrant / cassis typical of Cabernet, accompanied by herbal bay leaf notes. On the palate the texture is medium-bodied with primary flavours of blackcurrant and bay leaf, layered with secondary notes of cedar, chocolate and oak spice. The tannins are velvety soft, leading to a long, smooth finish.
This wine speaks clearly of its provenance in Western Australia, delivering great value from a family-owned, farm-focussed estate.
