Oban 10y, 2022 release
Price per litre:
Fine single malt whisky has been made in Oban for over 200 years, in one of the oldest licensed distilleries in Scotland. In effect, the town grew up around the distillery and since its foundation in 1794 it has played a crucial role in local life. Oban is made using only the finest barley, malted to the distillery’s own particular specification. This particular expression is one of Diageo’s Special Releases 2022 and boasts an illustration of The Celestial Blaze. Matured in a combination of refill and new American oak before a double maturation in ex-sherry and Amontillado seasoned casks, the result is a particularly smooth and gentle maritime dram.

Aroma: Apples, oranges and sultanas at first, with hints of spice. The sultana notes build but never overpower. Creaminess develops, dusted with lemon zest and a little brown sugar. Toffee and milk-chocolate notes emerge from the depths and crunchy pear sits around the edges.
Taste: Apples, pears and cream lead to milk chocolate and orange fondant. Soft toffee and a grind of black pepper grow in intensity, with pear, a pinch of chilli heat and green-capsicum flavour. Dark-chocolate and plum notes notes develop with a touch of sweet liquorice.
Finish: Chilli spice tingles and fades to reveal wine-poached pears and crunchy apples.
